A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of problems that affect the gums and other supporting tissues of the teeth. On your first appointment, the doctor will examine your mouth for any periodontal issues, as well has review your medical history to see if there are contributing factors effecting periodontal health. Should gum problems be detected, the doctor will tailor a treatment plan to address your specific periodontal issues to lead you back to periodontal health.

Maintaining oral health is most effectively achieved through proper oral home care and routine teeth cleanings. Periodontitis is a chronic disease in humans. While it can't be cured, the disease can be controlled with the support of our experienced doctors and hygienists. At your evaluation with the doctor, he will decide what hygiene treatment is appropriate restore periodontal health. This can range from multiple deeper cleanings with local anesthesia to remove bacterial debris and smooth roots to regularly scheduled periodontal maintenance visits to prevent further destruction of periodontal tissues. With periodontitis, studies show that a 3 month recall is the best way to maintain and prevent further disease activity.
